Job Overview
The Assistant Director of HR Leaves & ADA provides districtwide strategic and operational leadership for employee leave and absence management programs, ensuring compliant, consistent, and service-centered support for all staff. This role has primary responsibility for the governance and administration of all employee leave programs—including FMLA, Temporary Disability Leave (TDL), Unpaid Leave (UPL), catastrophic leave, sick leave bank, voluntary transfer of leave days, and all other leave options outlined in the employee handbook—ensuring alignment with federal, state, and district requirements and established internal controls. The Assistant Director also leads the district’s Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accommodation program, directing interactive processes and implementing reasonable accommodations that support employee success, operational continuity, and organizational effectiveness. Additionally, the position directs absence management operations, ensuring accurate tracking, reporting, and stakeholder communication to promote employee wellness, reduce operational disruptions, and maintain regulatory compliance. The Assistant Director serves as an escalation point and trusted advisor to employees, supervisors, and district leaders on policy interpretation, timelines, eligibility criteria, documentation requirements, and complex case resolution. This role establishes performance expectations and service standards for Leaves & ADA functions, leverages data to identify trends and recommend program improvements, and ensures continuous improvement of processes impacting leave, accommodations, and attendance—strengthening organizational capacity and supporting a high-performing workforce.
