Frequently Asked Questions

What are the Civics Training Programs?

Civics Training Programs help administrators and teachers strengthen the skills and knowledge needed to cultivate informed American patriotism in students and lead close study of the founding documents of the United States and Texas. The programs were established by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) under Texas Education Code §21.4555.

Each campus in a public school or charter school system must have at least one teacher and one principal or campus instructional leader attend civics training.
The Civics Training Program is a two-day, in-person training that includes 12 hours of instruction. There is no cost for teachers and administrators from public and charter school systems to attend. Classroom teachers who successfully complete the training outside their contracted workdays or hours may be eligible for a $600 stipend. Campus administrators are not eligible for the stipend.
Yes. Participants who successfully complete the training and demonstrate content mastery on the embedded assessments receive a certificate of completion. TEA also maintains participation records to document campus compliance with the statutory requirement.
Review the available Civics Training Program sessions above and register for the date that best fits your schedule. We encourage campuses to register both their designated teacher and either the principal or the campus instructional leader to help meet the state training requirement.
