The purpose of the conference is to bring together district and school leaders, instructional coaches, and educators in a shared commitment to accelerating success for emergent bilingual (EB) students. Grounded in a collective impact approach, the conference experience focuses on aligning leadership, instruction, and support systems to improve language development and academic achievement across all grade levels.
Dr. Jeff Zwiers
Dr. Jeff Zwiers is an educational consultant and former senior researcher at the Stanford Graduate School of Education, where he worked for 14 years. A former bilingual elementary and secondary teacher, his work focuses on strengthening instruction through authentic communication, academic conversation, and meaningful student-to-student interaction across content areas.
He has collaborated extensively with educators through research, co-teaching, and school-based professional learning, with a particular emphasis on literacy, language development, and classroom discourse. Dr. Zwiers is also the author of books and articles on literacy, communication, conversation, and language development, as well as children’s books and bilingual curriculum materials developed to support oral language learning in rural schools in Guatemala.
In addition to delivering the keynote, Dr. Zwiers will lead two breakout sessions during the conference.
